Home Remedies: Clogged Drains
Clogged drains — there’s no avoiding them. No matter how hard one may try, at some point, the kitchen sink or bathtub will back up.
Before you go reaching for the chemical products on aisle 5, consider using a natural remedy instead.
You’ll only need three ingredients — hot water, baking soda, and vinegar.
Why Vinegar and Baking Soda?
Baking soda and hot water will help loosen up the food, and organic matter stuck at the bottom of your drain. And when you add vinegar, which is an acid, the chemical reaction will then dissolve any leftover food particles the baking soda and water couldn’t pick up.
What Are The Benefits?
Chemical cleaners may be the go-to remedy for clogged drains, but these products can damage your pipes, as well as your health. Vinegar and baking soda are a healthy and inexpensive way to get the job done just as well — if not better!
How To Unclog Your Drains
Pour 1 cup of boiling water down your drain.
Add ½ cup of baking soda and let it sit for one minute.
Next, pour 1 cup of vinegar and 1 cup of boiling water down the drain.
Cover the drain to keep the chemical reaction down below the surface.
Put a timer on for 5 to 10 minutes.
Flush your drain once more with boiling water.
If the drain is still clogged, repeat this process as necessary.
